In spite of challenges caused by the worldwide recession and the decline of society membership, Division X membership remains relatively stable. But many of our members are being negatively impacted on the job and on their income. IEEE must recognize member difficulties and help to ameliorate their conditions. The stiff competition in conferences and publications, and global demand for better technology and environment must also be addressed As Division X Director, I pledge to promote collaboration between our societies to: Maintain our world leadership in the technical fields represented by our Division. Improve IEEE efficiencies that control costs and dues Develop effective programs for recruitment and retention of student and GOLD membership Explore, nurture and champion emerging technologies Implement mechanisms to deal with rapidly growing problems that threaten the quality of our conferences and publications Maximize sharing of “Best Practices” for member benefits.
